Classical Artist & Cultural Ambassador
Charmaine Ann Lazarus began learning Bharatnatyam at the age of four, where she developed a deep understanding of human relationships through spiritual folklore such as Radha–Krishna and Lord Shiva–Parvati.
After completing her Bachelor in Performing Arts, she represented Indian culture internationally through performances across Germany, Singapore, and the USA. In 1994, her Bharatnatyam interpretations of Biblical parables in German churches received wide appreciation and were featured on German National Television. She also delivered lectures at the University of Eichstatt on Hindu culture and spiritual philosophy.
In 1996, she had the honour of performing before the then Prime Minister of Singapore and Malaysian delegates. In 2007, she was approached by the BBC World News channel to feature in their 8-segment series on the Life and Journey of a Bharatnatyam Artist. She was featured twice in the prestigious Femina Magazine in 2014 and 2016 featuring successful women entrepreneurs. Her tireless efforts finally bore fruit when she was awarded the Nari Shakti Award which was powered by the Women and child Deptt of India in 2018.
Founder & Mentor
In 1987, Charmaine founded the Nupra Bharatnatyam Dance Academy, where she has trained thousands of students over nearly four decades. Beyond dance, she has consistently emphasized discipline, humility, confidence, perseverance, and moral values.
In 2027, she proudly completes 40 years as a Bharatnatyam teacher and mentor.
Advocate for Families & Relationships
While managing her artistic career, Charmaine pursued higher education in Commerce and Law, eventually completing her Masters in Law with specialization in Corporate and Criminal Law in 2004.
Her work at the Pune Family Court exposed her to the growing emotional and psychological challenges within marriages and families. Through counselling and mediation, she became known for her compassionate approach toward resolving conflicts, always believing litigation should be the last resort. This has been her USP in making every effort in saving homes and marriages from breaking.
Her work has helped salvage numerous marriages while guiding families through emotionally difficult transitions with empathy and understanding.
Voice for Children’s Emotional Well-Being
One of the strongest aspects of Charmaine’s work has been her sensitivity toward children affected by broken relationships. She strongly believes that children are often the deepest emotional casualties of failing marriages, carrying invisible psychological wounds through years of a toxic environment at home, into adulthood.
Leadership & Social Impact
Charmaine also became the first woman President of the historic Pune Goan Institute, founded in 1914, serving for seven consecutive years after being elected with an overwhelming 90% majority.
She currently serves as the Joint Secretary of the Family Court Advocates Association, Pune (2025–2026).
